Niki Cooper - Committee Member
Niki Cooper qualified with a B.Ed and a specialism in Art. She first taught in England and then in The Netherlands. Niki found that her passion for illustrating became an essential tool for finding meaning with students new to the language and this sparked her interest in language acquisition. Subsequently Niki moved into ESL and became an ESL Coordinator. She completed language teaching qualifications and an MA in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching. Her developing interest in mother tongue maintenance and programming resulted in a number of initiatives to address the social, emotional and language needs of students. Niki developed and implemented the syllabus at the local teacher training colleges to support Dutch trainee teachers in the field of language learning and teaching. She continues to offer professional development training in the field of ESL and mother tongue. Following a four year interlude as Admissions Officer and Vice-Principal, Niki took the opportunity to return to a frontline teaching role as Mother Tongue Language Coordinator and ESL teacher at United World College Maastricht.
